Old Betty Bingo
Single and widowed elderly women are a growing population in the United States. The demographic suffers a lack of attention from geriatric development, government, family, friends and society. Unfortunately our culture tends to place elderly women in retirement homes or communities instead of inviting our loved ones into our own homes. As a result, single and widowed elderly women feel isolated, ignored and stripped of their lives as they knew it. Isolation has been proven to cause dementia, depression and alzheimer's.
Old Betty Bingo is a way for a forgotten population to come together, establish community and purpose while enjoying a simple game together. Old Betty Bingo is a paid service individuals or retirement communities may subscribe to. At its core, Old Betty Bingo is an ongoing game of bingo that may be played from anywhere with a television or computer, at anytime. Harnessing a piece of technology proven to cause dementia and isolation, Old Betty Bingo uses the television set to deliver bingo. Instead of introducing a new piece of technology of users Old Betty Bingo uses a familiar device avoiding intimidation or frustration. We created the entire user experience: the TV interface, the online version and the playing cards/chips.
